Israeli official in Gaza truce talks

AN Israeli official has landed in Cairo for Egypt-mediated truce talks with Hamas to end the Gaza conflict, Egyptian security officials say.

The official landed in a small plane at 1100 GMT (2200 AEDT) on Sunday and was quickly escorted away by intelligence personnel, the security officials said.

Hamas officials say intensive truce talks are focused on agreeing guarantees for the ceasefire conditions.

At least 56 Palestinians and three Israelis have been killed over the past five days around Gaza.
